1. Download the required files and packages for the setup.

    - Open "Self Service" on your Mac by typing it in into "Spotlight" or by opening it from "Applications". You should also find it on your "Dock".

    - In "Self Service" select "Download Virtual Box Files". This should take a few minutes to download and will create a folder in your "Downloads" folder called "VirtualBox Install Files" with the required files.




  2. Install VirtualBox

    - Open the "VirtualBox Install Files" folder from your "Downloads" folder and double-click on the VirtualBox .pkg file. 

    - Click on "Continue", "Continue", and "Install". Once installation is finished, you can click on "Move to bin" to get rid of the downloaded install file or you can "Keep it".


  3. Create a Windows 10 Virtual Machine with VirtualBox

    - Open VirtualBox from "Applications" just installed



    - Add a new Virtual Machine by clicking on the blue "New" icon on the top of the window.



    - On the window that opens up type in a meaningful name for your VM (e.g. Windows 10 VM). Make sure selections for "Type" and "Version" match the screenshot below.




    - Click Continue to accept the recommended Memory Size




    - Click on the "Create" button to accept the recommended size for the hard disk. Option "Create a virtual hard disk now" must be selected. Make sure you have enough free disk on your local HD.





    - On the "Hard disk file type" window, select "VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)" and click on "Continue" .

    - For "Storage on physical Hard Disk", select "Dynamically allocated" and click "Continue". 

    - Before you click "Create" on the"File location and size" window, first check the free storage on your HD. Click on the apple icon on the top left corner of your screen and select "About This Mac". Then, click on the "Storage" tab. The default size limit for the virtual HD is 50 GB. Check if you have enough free disk space.





    - On the "File location and size" window, you can adjust the size limit of your virtual HD. If you have enough free storage, leave the default of 50 GB, or adjust it if necessary. Click on "Create".



  4. Configure your newly created Virtual Machine

    - Click on the yellow "Settings" icon on top of the window



    - Click on the "System" icon at the top and untick "Floppy" from the "Boot order:" options




    - Click on the "Storage" icon at the top. Inside the "Storage Devices" window, highlight the "Empty" optical drive under "Controller: SATA" . On the right side, under "Attributes", click on the CD like icon next to the "Optical Drive:" drop-down selection field, and click on "Chose Virtual Optical Disk File...". Then select the Windows 10 ISO file from the "VirtualBox Install Files"  folder inside your "Downloads" folder, and click "Open"




    - Click "OK"


  5. Start and install your Windows 10 VM

    - With your Windows 10 VM selected, click the green arrow "Start" icon 




    - Windows installation will start. On the first window, change the "Time & currency format:" field to "English(Australia)" and click "Next".
    Note: If you see a message at the top of the screen about mouse pointer, just click on the blue "x" icon to close the message.



    - Click on "Install now" in the following window.

    - Select "Windows 10 Enterprise" in the following window and click "Next".

    - Tick the "I accept the license terms" tick box and click "Next"

    - Select "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)" for type of installation. 




    You should se in the following window a 50 GB drive with unallocated space. Click "Next".




    - Windows will now go through the installation process.




    - VM will restart once installation finishes. 

    - After it restarts, select "Australia" for region and click "Next".

    - Select "US" for keyboard layout and click "Next".

    - Click "Skip" for a second keyboard layout.

    - Machine will restart again. After it reboots you might see the following screen. Click on "Skip"




    - On the "Who's going to use this PC?" window, type in a name for the user. (e.g. your own name or a generic WinUser).

    - Type a password. Click "Next".

    - Confirm the password. Click "Next".

    - Next, you will have to create 3 security questions and answers. Go through the creation process by selecting security questions 1, 2, and 3.

    - After you created the three security questions, select "No" for "Do more across devices with activity history".

    - Click "Decline" for "Get help from your digital assistant".

    - Click "Accept" to accept the defaults for privacy settings.

    - This will finalise the install process.


  6. Install Guest Additions software

    - Click on "Devices" on the top menu and select "Insert Guest Additions CD image ...".




    - Open File Explorer on Windows and select "This PC" on the left panel.

    - Double click on the "CD Drive (D:) VirtualBox Guest Additions"




    - Double click on the VBoxWindowsAdditions installer




    - Click "Yes" to allow the app to make changes to your device

    - Click "Next", "Next", and "Install"

    - You will see another message asking "Would you like to install this device software?". Click "Install".

    - Click "Finish" to reboot your VM

    - After your VM reboots Select "View" at the top menu and select "Auto-resize Guest Display"

    - You can now resize the size of your VM window by dragging the bottom right corner of the window.

    - Enjoy!
